Freshman Admitted Student Checklisthttps://admissions.ecu.edu/enroll/freshmen/

Transfer Admitted Student Checklisthttps://admissions.ecu.edu/enroll/transfers/

ECU EMAIL – Check daily and multiple times. You should have already set up your ECU email account. If possible, please add your ECU email to your phone. Click here for instructions. ECU will only communicate with you through your official ECU email account.

BANNER ID – Please know your Banner ID (BXXXXXXXX). Have this ID available when you talk to faculty or staff at ECU and it is helpful to include in your emails.

TRANSCRIPTS and AP CREDIT – Send any updated transcripts or AP credit to ECU. These will not come from your High School. AP credit should be sent through College Board and any college transfer credit must come from the college in which that credit was completed. PLEASE INFORM YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISOR OF ANY CREDIT THAT MAY NOT BE VISIBLE IN DEGREE WORKS OR ON YOUR ECU ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPT.

ACADEMIC ADVISINGYou want to have a good working relationship with your academic advisor. To help you understand the student/advisor roles, click here. We also ask that you review our Advising Syllabus.

REGISTRATION PIN – You will need a registration PIN in order to register for classes. For freshmen, review the PIER website on how to obtain your PIN (https://pier.ecu.edu/step3/).  For transfer students, click the “View My Registration PIN” card in Pirate Port OR contact your academic advisor.  After your first semester, you will always receive your PIN from your advisor.

REGISTER FOR CLASSES – If you haven’t already, be sure to complete New Student Orientation and go through all steps on our THCAS Orientation Page. Registration instructions can be found on the Registrar’s Office website here: https://registrar.ecu.edu/preparing-to-register/.

REVIEW YOUR COURSE SCHEDULE – Please review your course schedule and be familiar with where all of your classes are located on campus or if your class is online. See this link for how to view your schedule details. See Campus Maps for building locations.  Double-check your schedule on the morning that classes start; sometimes classroom locations can change.  We suggest that you navigate the campus in-person before classes start; visit where your classes are located so that you are familiar before the first week of classes.  This can reduce a lot of anxiety!

PARKING AND BUS ROUTES – To obtain a parking permit or view the parking map, please see our Parking and Transportation website. For a listing of bus routes (campus, off campus, shopping) see Transit Services.

TEXTBOOKSBe sure you have all the books required for your courses. There are two ways you can find your required materials: 1) If you look at Class Details for each of your classes, you’ll see a ‘Textbook Information’ link that will bring you directly to the textbook requirements for that course via Dowdy Student Stores.  2) Go to the Dowdy Student Stores website.  Select ‘Course Materials & Textbooks,’ then ‘Find Course Materials.’  Enter the Term, Department, Course #, and Section of each of your classes; once you’ve entered all of your classes, select ‘Retrieve Materials’ to view all required materials.  You can order materials for pick-up or delivery. If you have questions about any required textbook, that should be direct to the instructor of that course.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR – Download and/or print the Academic Calendar for the upcoming term. You need to do this at the beginning of every semester and review dates for that term.

CANVAS – Canvas is ECU’s Learning Management System and most of your professors will be using it in their class. Your classes may not be visible on Canvas until the first day of class but continue to check the system a few days prior as some information may be posted. Please get familiar with this system. See Canvas Student Guides.

REVIEW YOUR COURSE SYLLABI – Review all of your course syllabi (most likely posted in Canvas) and communicate with your instructor any questions or concerns. Your classes may not be visible on Canvas until the first day of class but continue to check the system a few days prior as some information may be posted. If you can’t find your syllabus or don’t know your instructor’s email, use the ECU Directory.
